Summer is going by way to fast!
Is it really already mid July? One week from today I'll be counting down the minutes until it's time to go home because I'll officially be on vacation for 10 days. We are heading down to the Cape for the week and I am SO excited! I've been prepping a list of GF friendly places and number one on my list is Chatham Fish & Lobster Co. I heard about them on tv, maybe Phantom Gourmet? And ever since I've been dying to go. Fried scallops, here I come!! We also have plans to bring the bikes down and hit the Rail Trail, have friends down to visit, but mostly I'm looking forward to just plopping my butt on the beach with a book and wasting away. It's going to be great.
Today I went through my Flickr feed looking for an appropriate photo for this post and I was reminded of how much great food I've made over the years. Lately my diet has become pretty boring. I tend to eat the same things over and over again. Part of the problem is the cafe at work. I can only eat a few things so I tend to eat those same things because I'm too lazy to shop and the food at work is cheap. The other thing is that I'm never home. Between work, the boy, summer adventures, etc, I can't keep food in the house because it goes to waste. I really would like to be able to focus more on cleaning up my diet again. Of course, starting that a week before vacation is kind of moot. Then it'll be August and summer will almost be over, so why not enjoy the rest of the summer and clean it up in September? Yeah.. that's how I do things.
I did start training for a 5K yesterday though so I'm really hoping that goes well. I'm using the Couch to 5K training program and had my first run yesterday. It was a pretty basic workout and even at that, I was afraid I'd struggle, but I finished it strong and felt great. Today I actually am noticing that my legs feel awesome. Usually sitting at a desk all day my legs get swollen and achy but today they are doing very well. The boy was the one that wanted to start up running again and when we went to get him new sneakers at New Balance they told us about the 5K coming up in September. I've always wanted to run one myself but never found enough motivation. My former roommate is a big runner and completed the Boston Marathon this year and she always inspired me to run, but I just never did it. It would be a huge accomplishment to run a 5K. I know it's not a long race but I've always told everyone how much I hate running and with my bad knees and ankles I just figured I'd avoid it forever. But secretly I've always wanted to do it and now that I have a running partner, I guess it's now or never!!
I will definitely post all about my training progress and my vacation recap, and I also have a post coming with a cookie review. See ya soon!
